“Santico” Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2018

Santi

Terroir: The Santi Amarone ‘Santico’ is sourced from estate vineyards spread across multiple terroirs of the Valpolicella region.

Vinification: Only the ripest recie (ears) of the grape clusters are harvested when full ripeness is achieved in late October. Immediately following harvest the clusters are dried under shelter in flat wood crates until late January of the following year, greatly increasing natural sugar content and concentration. The dried grapes produce a powerful wine with marvelous flavor which is aged up to three years in Allier and Slovenian oak casks prior to release.

With its elegant hints of red fruit accompanied by a tangy flavor, Santico is aged for 30 months in wood barrels of different sizes, origins, and toasting, followed by several months in the bottle.
Dark red hue; concentrated, fragrant nose with top notes of cherry jam and cranberries, followed by hints of plum, dried fruit and cocoa.
On the palate it is full, round, with velvety tannins, pleasantly tangy with a long finish, with notes of red berries and an alluring full flavor.

This wine opens with aromas that deftly balance between cherries and earthy notes on the nose, enticing you into the first sip. The easygoing palate shows ample red and black fruits at first followed by tea, leather and superfine tannins. Jeff Porter
