Santi - “Proemio” Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2013
Proemio is Santi's top selection routinely praised in the world wine press.
Terroir: The Santi Amarone Proemio is sourced from several of the estates top vineyards. Vines average 40+ years old and are planted in ideal hillside locations with sunny south/ southeast exposures.
Vinification: Proemio is a blend of Corvina, Corvinone and a small amount of Rondinella. Harvest begins by hand in late September, as the team meticulously harvests only the best of the vineyards fruit typically amounting to only 10% of the vineyard yield. The grapes are placed in wooden boxes, and left to dry in controlled humidity until February of the following year. After pressing, the traditional maceration takes place over a period of more than three weeks, which is followed by up to 3 years aging in the cellars.
Additional Details editIntense red color; the nose stands out for its complexity, with evident hints of plum, cherry jam and tea leaf followed by notes of dried fruit, licorice and chocolate. On the palate it is full-bodied and round, with a perfect combination of sweet tannins, acidity and the return of the scents felt on the nose, which give a long and savory aftertaste.
“Proemio” is an elegant, austere, classic Amarone that can safely be forgotten in the cellar, for it defies time, anticipating it and summing up the future, just like its namesake.

"Aromas of mocha, cedar and baked plum slowly take shape on this robust red. The forward palate offers prune, cocoa and vanilla alongside close-grained tannins. Drink 2022–2027."
