Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles 2018

Olivier Leflaive

Terroir: As the name implies, the 1er Cru Clos de Angles is situated in the angle between Volnay Fremiets and Volnay Clos de la Barre mid-level on the slope below the village and just south of the border with Pommard. Leflaive sources from a 9 acre parcel.

Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested prior to fermentation and aging in a combination of new and used oak barrels and stainless steel.

Additional Information

A fine and elegant wine: nose crunching fresh fruits, a refined and velvety substance. Ideal with red meats cooked in sauce, game animals, eggs called “oeufs en meurette” and most cheeses.

"Pure flavors of black cherry and black currant are shaded by smoke and spice accents, here. Burly tannins add grip and structure, yet all the components are in the right place. Shows fine length. Best from 2024 through 2040. 50 cases imported."
