Olivier Leflaive - Rully 1er Cru Les Cloux 2015
Overview
Maison Olivier Leflaive takes great pride in the quality and value of their selections from the Côte Chalonnaise. These villages are situated to the south of the Côte de Beaune and represent a lighter, more fruit driven style of Chardonnay. Olivier Leflaive produces several cuvées from the villages of Montagny and Rully.
Terroir: The village of Rully contains 23 1er Cru vineyards each of which is ideal for Chardonnay. The Les Cloux vineyard sits on a hillside above the village with a southeast exposure. Soil is a mixture of clay and limestone.
Vinification: In an effort to increase the quality of the final blend, Olivier Leflaive vinifies each parcel separately. Each wine is aged on its lees for 6-7 months in not more than 15% new oak. Following their time in barrel the wine is blended and aged for an additional 9 months in stainless steel. During this time the wine is fined and lightly filtered before bottling.

This premier cru is situated above the village of Rully, giving a crisp style that is very evident here. Aged for six years in oak, the wine has a vanilla, toasty edge as well as pure acidity. It is delicious already, so drink now.

Though round in profile, this is undercut by vivid acidity, remaining well-delineated. Apple, lemon and subtle stone flavors play out from the start to the long finish. Drink now through 2024.

Pungent aromas of matchstick, petrol, citrus zest and a whiff of sulfur introduce utterly delicious medium weight flavors that possess a lovely sense of vibrancy thanks to the citrus-tinged acidity shaping the complex, balanced and persistent finish. This is quite good and should also drink well young and with a few years of age.
