Olivier Leflaive - Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles 2014
Overview
The Leflaive family has resided in the village of Puligny Montrachet for centuries and it is now home to Maison Olivier Leflaive. With it's variety of 1er Crus and a shared portion of Grand Crus Le Montrachet, Bienvenue-Bâtard Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachet, the terroir of Puligny is second to none. Each year Leflaive produces close to a dozen unique cuvées from these world class Chardonnay vineyards.
Terroir: As "grand" as a Premiere Cru can get without being a Grand Cru! Les Pucelles and it's 16 acres of densely planted vines sits directly beside Grand Crus Bâtard Montrachet and Bienvenues-Bâtard Montrachet and shares an almost identical terroir. With only a slight grade to the hillside in this area soils here are primarily clay.
Vinification: The lots are hand harvested and sorted at the winery and then undergoes primary and secondary fermentation in barrel and is aged for a total of 12 months in on its lees in 25% new oak. Following a gentle fining the wine is bottled and rests in the cellar for a short period prior to release.
Les Pucelles successfully combines elegance, complexity and power into a balanced medium to full bodied wine.

Intense, with lime blossom, lemon cake, peach, spice and mineral flavors focused and driven by the racy structure. Very young, but shows admirable intensity, depth and persistence. Beautifully balanced, this goes on and on, presenting a kaleidoscope of lemon, cinnamon and mineral details on the aftertaste. Best from 2020 through 2032.
