Olivier Leflaive - Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières (Recolte du Domaine) 2015
Overview
In 1984 Olivier and Patrick Leflaive left the family business, Domaine Leflaive, to establish the negociant house that bears their name. At the same time, they agreed with their family at Domaine Leflaive that the vineyards they owned would remain under contract with the Domaine. This contract came to term in 2010 and the vineyards have now come back under the control of Olivier and Patrick Leflaive and their company, Olivier Leflaive Frères. It is a spectacular holding including parcels of Bâtard Montrachet, Chevalier Montrachet, Puligny Montrachet Pucelles and Meursault Blagny. These holdings join the properties in Chassagne Montrachet, Abbaye de Morgeot and Clos St Marc, that have always been managed by Olivier Leflaive Frères and bring the new Domaine Olivier Leflaive to a total of close to 17 hectares, most Premier and Grand Cru. The new parcels are referred to as Recolte du Domaine and are all farmed biodynamically (as they were under the management of Domaine Leflaive). The first vintage for these new wines is 2010.
Terroir: The 44 acre 1er Cru of Folatières takes it's name from the term "follots" (a humid, foggy place). This large 1er Cru sits in the center of the appellation mid-slope at the same elevation as Chevalier Montrachet. Domaine Olivier Leflaive owns two parcels that total to a 1/2 acre in the center and north of the vineyard. Grapes are farmed biodynamically and average 27 years old. Soils are Argilo-calcareous.
Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested and pressed as whole berries upon arrival at the winery. Fermentation occurs entirely in oak, 30% of which is new. The young wines are aged in oak for a total of 12 months before resting in stainless steel for an additional 5 months prior to bottling.

There is a high level of toast and oiliness here, lending spicy, nutty components to the core of apple and citrus fruit. Turns a little less intense on the finish, but lingers nicely.

Offers an enticing combination of floral, peach, citrus and spice aromas and flavors, with vibrant acidity pulling all the elements together. Toast, pastry and mineral accents grace the refreshing and long aftertaste. Best from 2020 through 2030.

(from Peux Bois). A slightly riper assortment consists of a variety of floral elements that add a touch of elegance to the dense pear and apple aromas that exhibit a hint of the exotic. There is outstanding volume and mid-palate density to the punchy and more mineral-driven flavors that coat the palate with dry extract while delivering fine length though not the same finesse.
