The Leflaive family has resided in the village of Puligny Montrachet for centuries and it is now home to Maison Olivier Leflaive. With it’s variety of 1er Crus and a shared portion of Grand Crus Le Montrachet, Bienvenue-Bâtard Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachet, the terroir of Puligny is second to none. Each year Leflaive produces close to a dozen unique cuvées from these world class Chardonnay vineyards.
Terroir: Arguably Puligny’s most famous Premiere Cru and with over 33 acres under vine it is also it’s largest. Folatières sits mid hillside directly above the village of Puligny bordering 1er Cru Champ Gains further up the hill. Grade here is relatively steep and soil is well drained limestone. As with all Premiere Crus in Puligny, vines are very densely planted.
Vinification: The lots are hand harvested and sorted at the winery and then undergoes primary and secondary fermentation in barrel and is aged for a total of 12 months in on its lees in 25% new oak. Following a gentle fining the wine is bottled and rests in the cellar for a short period prior to release.
A rich but sophisticated wine, it expresses itself through scents of white flowers and fruits mixed in with notes of grilled hazelnut. On the palate, elegance takes over vivacity as this wine displays intricate flavors from the start through to the long, persistent finish.
