Meursault Les Narvaux 2013

Olivier Leflaive

The village of Meursault is an important appellation for Maison Olivier Leflaive as it is the home of chief winemaker Franck Grux. The Maison typically produces up to 10 cuvées including Premiere Crus; Perrières, Charmes, Genevrières, Poruzots and Narvaux.

Terroir: Les Narvaux sits on the upper slopes of the hillside directly above Les Genevrières. Because of it’s steeper grade the soils are shallow, pour and primarily stones giving Narvaux a rich mineral, age worthy style. The overall vineyard is approximately 33 acres. Olivier Leflaive considers this one of the top AOC’s of Meursault.

Vinification: The parcels are hand harvested and undergo alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in barrel. The Maison restricts the use of new oak to just 25% to retain vineyard character. The wines see on average 12-15 months in barrel before a gentle fining, blending and finally bottling.

"Here too there is a very mild hint of reduction that once again is sufficiently mild as to allow the cool green fruit, citrus and high-toned floral elements to be appreciated. There is a lovely sense of verve as well as very fine detail to the delicious and mineral-inflected medium weight flavors that display plenty of lemony nuances on the clean, dry and impressively complex and persistent finish. This is a really lovely Meursault villages and worth considering."
