Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaumes 2011

Olivier Leflaive

From one of the most well known vineyards in Chablis, the Olivier Leflaive 1er Cru Fourchaumes is a quintessential Chablis true to it’s nature.

Terroir: 1er Cru Fourchaume is one of the largest of the Premiere Cru vineyards of Chablis and is located just to the west of the Grand Crus. Though large in size, the vineyard has a consistent pitch and a south to southwest exposure.

Vinification: Grapes are handpicked and undergo a vigorous selection. The wine is tank fermented and aged in stainless steel. A small percentage of the blend is aged in oak in an effort to tame the sometimes aggressive acidity levels. Lees are stirred often.

The nose speaks clearly that one is drinking Chablis with its notes of iodine, mineral reduction and sea breeze adding character to the white flower and pear aromas. There is a really lovely mouth feel to the energetic, clean and mineral-inflected flavors that terminate in a dry and crisp finish.
