Terroir: “Vigna Monticchio,” 35-acre hillside vineyard at about 885 ft. with western exposure. Located on the Brufa hillside which has significant variety of soils, layers of clay alternate with sandy layers, the latter being more frequent at the mid- and lower-hill.

Additional Information

Intense ruby red with violet nuances. Elegant and complex, it recalls sour cherries and violets, with refined woody notes of cocoa and coffee. Warm and velvety, with solid structure and complex, the wine has slightly balsamic fruitiness, however it is lively and pleasantly fresh with balanced acidity, intriguing tannins, and a finish that is long, with spicy closing notes.

"The 2013 Torgiano Rosso Riserva Rubesco Vigna Monticchio is a darkly saturated and rich expression of Sangiovese that represents a selection of the estate's best fruit and vineyard plots. The wine delivers dark cherry, dried blackberry and plum, but there are evolved notes of spice and scorched earth as well. It all works out in the end, thanks in large part to the steady consistency and texture of the mouthfeel. Torgiano brings us a sunny, softly textured expression of Sangiovese in this production of 35,000 bottles."

"Tarry smoke and tea leaf notes lead the way in this savory, medium- to full-bodied red, which layers firm, well-knit tannins with flavors of dried cherry, iron and anise. Chewy finish. Best from 2021 through 2028. 1,666 cases made, 125 cases imported."

"Made entirely with Sangiovese, this elegant red has aromas of underbrush, moist earth, hazelnut and French oak. On the taut palate, firm, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity accompany cassis, espresso, vanilla and coconut before a rather drying finish. Give it a few more years to unwind and fully come together. Drink after 2023." November 1st, 2019 Issue.

"Plenty of dried redcurrants, fresher rose petals, vanilla, red plums and tobacco. Full-bodied with real density but energy on the palate, weaving a ton of dried red fruit through a tapestry of dusty tannins and driven acidity. Drink in 2021."
