Riesling Las Compuertas 2018

The character and personality of a wine represent the terroir and the hand of the men that have had an influence on that creation. This is a Riesling which expresses the experience of the Arizu family since 1970, it is the pioneer in the elaboration of this grape variety in Mendoza, which tries to express every characteristic of the soil and climate of Las Compuertas. It is bright yellow with subtle greenish hints, complex aromas, they evoke lime with some reminiscence of flowers (broom), lemon zest and rose-hip combined with a soft mineral note. It is round, smooth and a bit creamy on the palate; it also has good structure, good volume and refreshing acidity on the palate.

Terroir: Sourced exclusively from the estate’s Finca Los Nobles vineyard, located at an elevation of 1050 meters in Lujan de Cuyo sub-region of Mendoza. Continental climate, with a wide range of temperature between day and night, and distinct seasons which contribute to good plant growth. The altitude and its microclimate are ideal for the grapes since they provide a unique character. Good luminosity with many sun hours.

The soil has a sandy-loam structure, with stones of varying size in depth. No chemical herbicides are used at the vineyard, and biodynamic practices are used for its care and treatment. Vines here average 60 years old.

Vinification: The grapes are handpicked in boxes from 18 to 20 kilograms, clusters are selected, then destemmed and then sorted again. The grapes are softly pressed in a pneumatic press and undergo an enzymatic stripping in cold for 36 hours. The must is racked and fermented with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 14°C. After fermentation, the wine is kept in contact with the lees for approximately 60 days (malolactic fermentation does not occur). Later, the wine is stabilized, filtered and bottled. It is aged for at least 6 additional months in before being released to the market.
