Recioto Classico D.O.C. 2009

Le Ragose

Terroir: Le Ragose Amarone is produced from estate vineyards sitting above 1200 feet in elevation. The vineyards are ideally situated with a south-west exposure and soils of clay and magnesium, calcium and iron based gravel. Vines average 30-60 years old.

Vinification: Following harvest the grapes are laid out in single layers in small wooden boxes where they will slowly dry until January or February. Once dry, the raisined grapes are fermented for up to 30 days with indigenous yeasts in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks where they will stay for a period of 12 months followed by 1-2 years in Tonneaux of Allier oak casks.

Additional Information

The 2009 Recioto has a nose of intense concentrated black cherry and currant. Dense, ripe and lush wild berries with a hint of dark chocolate. This is an unusual dessert wine of power and elegance, harmonic and enticing. The finish is sweet at the front of the pallet and dry at the back. It is long and satisfying. Excellent with gorgonzola cheese, dark chocolate desserts, cheesecakes, hazelnut and almond desserts.

"Herbal and earthy on the nose with spicy, peppery accents over the medicinal black cherry base notes that show a slightly roasted edge. Supple and smooth on entry, this counters early mineral notes with a late arriving chewy chocolate laced finish. Between the two floats a mass of black cherry fruit, macerated herbs, and some light nutty and quinine notes adding complexity to the finish. Savory and well balanced, not as mattely sweet as some versions."
