Hewitson - Lu Lu Shiraz 2016

Overview

Terroir: The Hewitson LuLu Shiraz vineyard is superbly situated close to the coast. It brings cool climate elegance to Australia’s premier variety. Soils are an ancient seabed made up primarily of sandy loam and limestone.

Vinification: Grapes are hand- harvested in the cool, pre-dawn hours. The grapes are crushed and demstemmed followed by a three week maceration on the skins at cool temperatures. The young wines are aged briefly in temperature stainless steel tanks and bottled.

Planting system: vertical shoot positioning; canopy management
Farming: Limited irrigation from dam; no herbicides

Additional Details edit

Classic cooler climate aromas of red fruits, pepper and spice. Fresh seamless palate of succulent cherries and forest floor fruits. Fine tannins and a creamy texture compliment the lingering fresh berry flavors.

Bright purple. Jammy blue fruit and floral scents and flavors, lifted by a spicy peppery note. Smooth and lively in style; the round, sweet finish shows just a hint of supple tannins. I'd give this emphatically fruity, easy-drinking Shiraz a year or so to lose some baby fat, but there's nothing that should stop you from enjoying it right now.

The wild berry and cherry flavors are bright and juicy, with clove, vanilla bean, pepper and cedar accents. Harmonious on the finish. Drink now through 2026.
