Cotes de Provence Rosé 2017

Hecht & Bannier

“For our selection, we focused on the cooler parts of the vineyard from the limestone foothills of Montagne Sainte Victoire, whose wines are almost marked by a vivacious and persistent minerality, to the vineyards of upper Provence. There, the clay-limestone soils and the oak and olive forests protect the vines and, in some ways, seem to nourish them. The higher altitudes also allow full maturity without excessive sugars (and therefore alcoholic degree in the finished wines).

Our vineyards are harvested at night between 3.00am and 9.00am in order to avoid oxidation and to preserve all of the fresh characteristics of vineyard and varietal. And it is our personal decision to avoid excessive maceration and extraction leading to wines that are at once concentrated but not opaque. Grenache and Cinsault are macerated together so that their personalities and qualities intermingle.

For our Cotes de Provence rosé we take a path quite apart from the one we follow for our Languedoc rosé with its high proportion of Syrah. We have sought a Provence rosé of immense charm and minerality redolent of dried herbs and mountain flowers.” -Gregory Hecht

"Limpid orange. Pungent red berry and orange zest scents show good clarity and spicy lift. Fleshy and dry on the palate, offering ripe strawberry and tangerine flavors that tighten up on the back half. Finishes chewy and taut, displaying a sneaky floral quality and good persistence."

A friendly style, with a mix of peach, white raspberry and blood orange notes streaming throughout. A light chalky hint gives this spine through the finish. Grenache, Cinsault and Vermentino. Drink now.

To the firm's credit, Hecht & Bannier does a nice job distinguishing the styles of their three roses. The 2017 CdP Rose is a plump, medium-bodied effort, marked by crisp, citrusy fruit. Passion fruit and grapefruit nuances give it a zippy, refreshing finish.
