Mâcon-Villages 2022

Famille Vincent

Terroir: The Mâcon-Villages is a blend of different vineyards in the South of Maconnais, predominantly situated on the mid-slopes where the richer soils from erosion mix with the limestones.

The mid-slopes benefit from perfect exposure to the sun assuring optimal maturation conditions and good drainage. The result is an optimal “phenolic ripeness” that brings lots of yellow stone fruit character in our wines, balanced by the mineral influence of the chalky soils and the natural freshness of the vintage.

We choose stainless for fermenting to preserve the purity of this fruit and to underline the “salin” from the limestone bedrock.

The most complete and balanced wine is a blend of different vineyards by enhancing the complementary character between the origins. This is the job of Antoine VINCENT as a wine-maker to bring harmony between the origins, a longstanding tradition as for the wines of Château-Fuissé.

J.J. Vincent & Fils sources a part of its grapes from family holdings. This privileged relationship allows a “proprietor” control of the culture of the vineyard and the quality of the grapes.

Vinification: In order to respect the integrity of the grapes we prefer handpicked grapes and special care is given to the transport and conveying until the presses (whole bunch pressing). We use pneumatic presses, adaptable to the quality and maturity of each harvest. The juice is pumped directly into stainless decantation tanks (débourbage).

After 12 hours of static rest, we separate the clear juice from the top and eliminate the remaining depot of the tank (heavy bourbes). The clear juice will be vinified in stainless steel tanks in order to underline the mineral character and preserve the purity of the fruit.

According to the acid/alcohol balance of the vintage and the judgment of our winemaker Antoine VINCENT, we do full or partial malo-lactic fermentation. Each of our origins are vinified separately and blended progressively after racking and regular tasting. The wines are fined with bentonite (natural clay) if necessary, followed by a light filtration.

The final Cuvée will rest for an extended period in the tank until the bottling. The marriage and harmony between the different components will be completed after three to four months in the bottle.

Additional care is given to our choice of corks. We tend to use more and more often the “technical” corks like diam in order to guarantee the regularity of our qualities in the bottles. Our bottles are finally stored in our cellars (13°Celsius- 55°Fahrenheit) awaiting their labeling and expedition.
