Overview
The selection for this sparkler - Crémant de Bourgogne comes from vinyards situated south of Burgundy. The vineyard soils are composed of limestone, clay and pebbles and are situated in the cooler areas. The grapes are hand-picked at the early stage of the harvest in order to preserve the mineral character and the acidity. These elements will allow freshness and crispy aromas once bottled. The word "Crémant" was originally used in reference to "Champagne demi-mousse" which is a lower pressured Champagne. The pressure difference was 5 bar instead of 6.5 to 7 bar. The actual vinification or elaboration of the Crémant called the "méthode traditionnelle" corresponds to the "méthode champenoise" and produces a pressure of 6.5 bar in the bottle."Additional Details

Crémant refers to French sparkling wine from anywhere other than Champagne, and frequently, like this effervescent delight, is terrific value. Bigger, fuller richer mouthfeel than many Champs and California fizz at twice the price, probably because of a touch higher dosage, but fear not, its all in balance, and will work perfectly as a cocktail or with the turkey.

This wine is available all over the US and has a suggested retail price of $23.99. Bits of pineapple, almond and hazelnut emerge from the nose of this wine along with a touch of lemon zest. Granny Smith apple leads the charge through the palate accompanied by bits of brioche and a firm undercurrent of yeast. Minerals, white pepper and nutmeg are all present on the finish along with a wisp of fresh ginger. There is a terrific depth of palate, purity of fruit and solid length here. It is a fresh, lively and elegant wine for the price."

"Perfumed and fairly complex on the nose with dried flowers, honeycomb, toasted nut and earthy, leesy toned dried apple fruit aromas. Bright and dry with good focus, this is less complex in the mouth, quite simple in fact, but what it does, delivering a crisp, clean mouthfeel with earthy complexity to the subtle dried apple and citrus fruits, it does quite well. The finish is tight, clean and a bit short but this is dry, crisp and delicious. I would buy this."

" Jean-Jacques Vincent and son, Antoine, owners and winemakers of Château Fuissé, one of the very top estates in Pouilly-Fuissé, have, like many small growers in Burgundy, a négociant business in addition to their main domaine wines. This Crémant is just one of an astonishingly good and well-priced line of wines they produce under their négociant label, Vincent. (Crémant is a term for sparkling wines produced by traditional methods, but outside of the Champagne area.) Although any of the allowed Burgundy grapes can be used for Crémant de Bourgogne, Vincent uses Chardonnay exclusively, which explains the wine’s glorious elegance and persistence. And since the grapes come from around his base in the warmer Mâcon region, their Crémant has an appealing roundness balanced by a lovely creamy mousse. It’s a terrific alternative to Champagne."

"The wine shows straw-pale yellow with consistent small bubbles. On the nose it is very yeasty, with tropical fruits, like banana bread with a pineapple topping. It is more tart on the attack, leading with soft lime and clementines. It softens to more tropical flavors on the mid-palate, all over a yeasty Zweiback (that’s not a wine, BTW) background, with mango and fried banana. Acids add crispness. The finish is mid-length, trending back toward the citrus flavors. Drink with escargot."

Lovely, deep straw color. A ripe and exuberant Chardonnay nose with fresh yellow apple and pear essences. Inviting and luxurious. The bubble is persistent on the palate, without the intense minerality or chalkiness often found in true Champagne. Yet this softer mouth texture is remarkably pure and richly flavorful. Altogether refreshing and brisk, a recent tasting found everyone thrilled by its character and lovability. A most pleasant surprise, try with aged Gouda, Mediterranean olives and whole grain crackers or cheese straws."
