Riesling Jubilee 2007

Famille Hugel

Hugel’s ‘Jubilee’ are sourced exclusively from family owned Grand Cru vineyards in the top terroirs in Alsace.

Terroir: Riesling Jubilee is sourced from the family owned vines on the steep slopes of the Schoenenbourg vineyard high above the village of Riquewihr. The vineyard is extremely steeply pitched and has an ideal south/ southeast exposure.

Vinification: The grapes are harvested by hand and brought to the winery in Riquewihr for additional sorting prior to vinification. After a strict sorting the grapes are pressed and fermented at cool temperatures in either stainless steel or large neutral oak casks. The young wines are then fed by gravity to the cellars for aging. Following aging the wines are lightly filtered, bottled and then stored until release to the market.

Additional Information

“In Alsace, the 2007 vintage was full of surprises, but pleasant surprises !

For those who love elegant, pure, well balanced wines, 2007 was a benchmark vintage. Having enjoyed the longest period of maturation for the past 25 years, the grapes were perfectly ripe and healthy.

On the Schoenenbourg, our best Riesling vineyards were harvested at an average ripeness of 13.8% potential, while on the Sporen, Gewurztraminer Vendange Tardive easily reached 17.8%.

In Alsace, the amount of VT and SGN wines produced provides an excellent indication of the overall quality of any year, and so 2007 has all the makings of a great Alsace vintage.” -Etienne Hugel

Tangerine zest, thyme, pepper cress, and fusil and marine aromas prepare the way for a satiny palate saturated with illusive mineral as well as pungently herbal and citric flavors. The sense of palpable extract here is formidable, which along with its pronounced acidity and minerality makes for slight austerity, but the wine displays such penetration and grip as well as invigoration that it will prove fascinating in some contexts already, and has all the makings of yet another 20 or more year classic to set beside its many illustrious predecessors.

"An open and airy Riesling, with deftly mixed flavors of apple blosom, star fruit, apricot and stone. Hints of spice and honey wind through the wine, lingering on the mouthwatering finish."
