Overview

Hugel's "Jubilee" are sourced exclusively from family owned Grand Cru vineyards in the top terroirs in Alsace.

Terroir: Pinot Noir accounts for just 8% of the overall Hugel production. The Pinot Noir Jubilee is sourced from the Pflostig Grand Cru, southeast of the village of Riquewihr.

Vinification: The grapes are harvested by hand and brought to the winery in Riquewihr for additional sorting prior to vinification. The grapes are macerated for two weeks with daily punching of the cap to encourage extraction. The young wines are then fed by gravity to the cellars for 10 months of aging in small oak casks. About 10% of the barrels are new each vintage. Following aging the wines are lightly filtered, bottled and then stored until release to the market.

An exquisitely intense, deep ruby red colour, with hardly any purple on the rim, underlining its youthful vivacity. Its bouquet is splendidly expressive and rich, with the broad palette of aromas that identifies all great wines. Dominant red berry aromas of raspberry, strawberry and cherry are enhanced by hints of tobacco and cedarwood. The palate is already soft, well balanced, supple, with the gentle tannins of perfectly mature grapes, and enough body and vinosity to give it structure and depth. Already enjoyable, served at about 15 or 16°C, this wine will astound us after a few more years in bottle, proving that an Alsace Pinot Noir can also be a great red wine. Serve with red or white meats, roasted, grilled or with gravy: lamb, beef, veal, quail, poultry…
