Famille Hugel - Muscat Classic 2018

Overview

Terroir: The grapes used to produce Hugels "Classic" wines come exclusively from estate owned vineyards or from growers under long term contract surrounding the village of Riquewihr.

Vinification: Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled vats followed by natural clarification in nuetral vessels over the winter. The wine is lightly fined and gently filtered prior to bottling in the spring.

From The Wine Advocate "New is the Classic (former Hugel) range that represents "the essence of the pure, dry Famille Hugel style" and now includes Muscat and Pinot Gris, along with all the other noble grapes. The grapes of the Classic range are predominantly purchased but obligatory hand-picked from vineyards with clay-limestone soils in Riquewihr and neighbouring villages, and give classic gastronomic wines with a dry expression."

Additional Details edit

This dry Muscat is youthful, fresh and lively. The aromas are expressive and generous, fruity and aromatic, with a subtle yet firm scent of fresh Muscat grapes. It is refreshing, dry and easy to drink, with a perfumed, muscatel-like finish. Serve chilled, to appreciate its fruity character. The aromas and flavors are very refined, with a very long finish. On the nose, the wine is an explosion, blending multiple floral aromas: rose, acacia, jasmine, ripe and candied fruit, passion fruit, mango, lychee, spices, cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg, together with honey, currants, and a hint of over-ripeness. The whole is harmonious, refined and elegant. On the palate, it is velvety, suave, perfectly mellow, soft and silky. The wine can be enjoyed immediately or after 10 years of bottle age. It can be enjoyed with cakes, tarts, apple, pear, apricot, with foie gras, terrine or sautéed, and especially on its own.

"Notes of orange and mandarin zest accompany honeysuckle on the nose of this wine. The palate holds zesty lemon freshness and displays light-footed sinuousness. The finish is invigorating, dry and fresh, with lemony length."
