Famille Hugel - Gewurztraminer Jubilee 2008

Hugel's "Jubilee" are sourced exclusively from family owned Grand Cru vineyards in the top terroirs in Alsace.

Terroir: Sourced from the family owned parcel of the Grand Cru Sporen vineyard on the slopes just outside of Riquewihr. Soils here are primarily clay and chalk.

Vinification: The grapes are harvested by hand and brought to the winery in Riquewihr for additional sorting prior to vinification. After a strict sorting the grapes are pressed and fermented at cool temperatures in either stainless steel or large neutral oak casks. The young wines are then fed by gravity to the cellars for aging. Following aging the wines are lightly filtered, bottled and then stored until release to the market.

Blood orange, pink grapefruit, caraway, musky animal scents, and a variety-typical hint of litchi all inform the nose of Hugels 2008 Gewurztraminer Jubilee, then remerge on a palate both creamy and silken and yet also possessed of a vivacity and primary juiciness one seldom encounters in its genre. Peppery, saline, and zesty notes along with a continuation of caraway make for a finish of tactile intensity. This should prove fascinating at table for at least the next dozen years.

"Finely balanced, with a streak of minerality underscoring well-meshed flavors of white peach, lemon curd and candle wax. Juicy throughout and silky in texture, this elegant version features a zesty edge to the lasting finish. Drink now through 2023."
