Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese 2015

Egon Müller

Müller’s Auslesen are made from noble not affected, hand selected bunches, typically semi-sweet or sweet, with some noble rot character, as the vineyard does not treat the vines against botrytis. This adds new dimensions of character to both the bouquet and taste of the wines.

Additional Information

“2015 is certainly a great vintage. After the summer one would look for parallels with 2003 and they are there: The volume of the harvest is the same, almost to the litre. The overall aspect of the grapes was similar. Green, turning to golden with very little Botrytis and the must weights are on the same level. One difference is easily explained with the weather during the harvest: While it wasn’t at all difficult to harvest great Auslese and while we did succeed in making a Trockenbeerenauslese, at that level the record breaking Oechsle of 2003 were never within reach. Acidity levels that are often twice as high as those of the 2003s and 2 or 3 g higher than those of the 2007s or 2009s. Once again we seem to have a vintage without precedent this is one that we can expect to enjoy.” – Egon Müller

This wine displays stony minerality, hints of acacia and lilac, grilled exotic fruit, sweet stone fruits and bracing acidity all combined in perfect harmony. Due to tiny production and high demand, this wine very rare.

"A creamy-dreamy nose with a lot of tropical flowers that is very enticing. Very lush and concentrated but with great purity and delicacy too. If you have never tasted an Auslese from Egon, then you've missed something in life. This wine is the ideal one to put that right. If you're already familiar with this wine from other vintages, you could wait years or decades for this."

The 2015 Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese is beautifully clear, intense and piquant on the complex and elegant nose, which displays a great mix of tropical fruit, honey and Scharzhofberg slate with fine botrytis flavors. Round, lush and salty, this is a gorgeously rich, yet pure and piquant Auslese. It has great complexity and elegance. The finish is precise and salty, with great intensity and piquancy. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2060.

This sings with a pure, elegant mix of peach, quince, dried pear and apple tart flavors. Rich and creamy midpalate, this features an exuberantly minerally and fruity finish that glistens with acidity. Drink now through 2042.
