Domaine Pascal Jolivet - Sancerre "Sauvage" Rouge 1999

Overview

Terroir: Sauvage Pinot Noir is issued from a parcellar selection of Pinot Noir old vines planted in Bué in 1952. The most beautiful plots are located in this area. The vine grows perfectly well on this very mineral clay-limestone soil. Vinification: Vinification and maturation in demi-muids for 15 months, no filtration before bottling.

Additional Details edit

Color is dark ruby red, of ripe cherries; quite deep for a Pinot Noir. The nose is deep and ripe, with a concentration of dark red fruits. On the palate it is ripe, youthful and firm; remarkably full and powerful. A one-of-a-kind achievement in Sancerre.

While many red Sancerres are relatively light, Jolivet's Grande Cuvée is serious and delicious. Despite its size, it is a classy, suave wine.
