Domaine Labruyère - Le Clos du Moulin-à-Vent 2015

Overview

Terroir: Domaine Labruyère owns approximately 35 acres of prime vineyards in Moulin-à-Vent. Le Clos du Moulin-à-Vent is sourced exclusively from the Le Clos du Moulin vineyard where vines are very densely planted in soils of granite and quartz. Vines here average 50 years old.

Vinification: Grapes are hand picked parcel by parcel as they reach phenolic ripeness and transported to the winery in small 25kg crates to avoid damage. Upon arrival the grapes are sorted twice prior to de-stemming. Vinification begins with a 20-day maceration at cool temperatures in stainless steel and concrete vats prior to aging in the cellars in oak cask.

Vivid ruby. Intensely perfumed red and blue fruit liqueur, mocha and licorice scents, along with hints of exotic Moroccan spices and cola. Sweet, penetrating and expansive on the palate, offering sappy black raspberry, cherry pie, floral pastille and succulent herb flavors that become livelier as the wine opens up. Deftly plays richness off finesse and finishes extremely long and sweet, with smooth, harmonious tannins coming in late.

The old-vine character to this tiny-production wine comes through clearly with wet earth, peat, blackberries and bark. Full-bodied, dense and extremely deep. Firm and silky tannins melt into the wine. Mineral, granite undertones. Made from biodynamically grown grapes.

A sinewy red, with polished tannins framing flavors of blackberry, plum and coffee. Rich but focused, offering notes of floral, graphite and anise that linger into the tannic finish. Drink now through 2020.
