Bourgogne Gamay 2016

Domaine Labruyère

Terroir: This cuvée is a selection of exceptional granite terroirs of Domaine Labruyère. Approximately 4000 vines per acre, where the average age of vines is 50 years.

Vinification: Grapes are harvested manually in 30 lb. crates before passing on a double sorting table and are 100% destemmed. The fermentation takes place in 65 hl concrete or stainless steel tanks, in order to isolate each parcel and to express the unique characteristics of our terroirs. The entire system is thermo-regulated. Slight filtration occurs and with no fining. Fermentation lasts 18 days and a temperature of 28 – 30°C. The wine is aged in concrete or stainless steel tanks for 18 months with 100% malolactic fermentation.

Additional Information

The weather in winter was mild and humid and remained the same until the end of March. Despite this, the dates of bud break (9th-12th April) are in the last decade average and the temperature went up from the beginning of April. The end of April and May were cold and very humid with temperatures close to 0°C, which slowed down the growth of the vine. Thanks to a temperature increase from 7th June, flowering started on 16th June (three weeks later that in 2015). But June was especially marked by a violent hail storm on the 24th, which strongly touched the north of the Beaujolais. Fortunately, the most beautiful parcels at the semi-slopes of Moulin-à-Vent remained intact. The summer faced strong temperature variations from one week to another with a beginning of véraison on 10th August, placing this vintage among the latest in the past years. The end of August and the beginning of September were exceptionally hot and dry, helping grapes to reach beautiful maturities. The harvest at Domaine Labruyère began on 20th September.

Beautiful intense red ruby color. Very fruity on the nose with fresh ripe red cherry notes evolving with time on delicate spicy notes. The palate is savory and fleshy with great fruitiness. Digestible on the finish with elegant silky tannins. Excellent ageging potential up to 7 years.
