Date: Monday, March 16, 2015 "(this bottling included the young vines from Santenots as well as all of the Champans juice, as the old vines in Champans were decimated by hail): Medium red. Rather shallow aromas of red berries, licorice and peppery herbs. Juicy and linear, showing moderate ripeness and intensity. With limited mid-palate support, this turns a bit dry on the chewy back end. I'd drink this essentially soft wine on the young side for its cut."

Date: Friday, January 24, 2014 "The 2012 Volnay 1er Cru Santenots has a more expressive bouquet than this year’s premier cru, with slightly redder fruit and simply a lighter touch. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a mineral core and a very appealing taut and focused finish. This is certainly a step up from the premier cru and worth seeking out."

Date: Friday, January 24, 2014 "Bright medium red-ruby. Wild, musky blackberry lifted by violet on the nose; smells serious! Dense and sweet in the mouth, displaying highly concentrated, velvety flavors of black raspberry and chocolate, complicated by syrah-like notes of game and violet. Spicy and long on the ripely tannic finish. This reminded me a bit of a topnotch Côte-Rotie. Nadine Gublin assured me that this wine finished its fermentation with under one gram per liter of residual sugar. Another example of a Côte de Beaune wine with freakish concentration yet excellent balance."
