Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes 2015

Domaine Jacques Prieur

Terroir: Domaine Jacques Prieur’s 3.7 acre plot of Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes sits with an ideal southeast facing exposure. The soil is primarily of clay and limestone with average draining that leads to highly ripe grapes.

Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested, strictly sorted and destemmed. The must will sit on the skins for 12-14 hours prior to fermentation. The wine ages for a total of 16 months in oak barrels deep in the cellars of Domaine Jacques Prieur.

Additional Information

2015 Exceptional sunshine!
The year 2015 profited from completely exceptional climatic conditions with surplus sunning, very weak pluviometry and very high temperatures in June and July. The strong luminosity and heat marked this year with accelerated vegetative cycle and certain stages such as flowering at the beginning of June and ripening at the beginning of August were fulgurating.
Harvests at Domaine Jacques Prieur started on 3rd September for Chardonnays and on 7th September for the Pinot Noirs.
2015 can be illustrated as an extremely early vintage and it stands next to 2003, 2007 and 2011.

Luminous golden green with scintillating yellow gold reflections. Yellow fruit notes (mirabelle plum) mixed with sweet spices and delicate vanilla. Smooth, tender and warm palate, slightly toasted. Precise, fine and persistent on the finish with a beautiful salivating sapidity.

(14% alcohol; from grapes picked on September 4): Bright, green-tinged yellow. Aromatic nose melds white peach and spices. Juicy and stylish but dry and backward too, showing surprising verve for its 3.7 grams per liter acidity. The fine-grained peach flavor is complicated on the end by a sexy yeasty nuance. Finishes dusty, fresh and long.

"This too is aromatically quite fresh with a compositionally similar nose though in this case the floral elements are more pronounced. There is both fine volume and richness to the vibrant and attractively textured, indeed even caressing, medium weight plus flavors that deliver fine complexity on the balanced and beautifully persistent finish. This should drink well young but also repay mid-term keeping."

Cloudy pale yellow. Ripe stone fruit and spice aromas are complicated by an iodiney oyster shell note. A rich, ripe fruit bomb on the palate, with just enough mineral spine to maintain its shape. This big boy finishes long, with strong saline minerality for the year and for the cru. Offers excellent potential. Beginning with the 2014, this wine is aged partly in foudres, noted enologist Nadine Gublin, "because we like it."
