Domaine Jacques Prieur - Meursault AC Clos de Mazeray Rouge (Monopole) 2016
Terroir: This 0.6 acre walled vineyard in the heart of Meursault is a monopole for Domaine Jacques Prieur. The vineyard sits in a rather flat position with rich clay soils covering what was once a riverbed.
Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested, strictly sorted and destemmed. The must will sit on the skins for 20 days prior to racking. The wine ages for 12 months of in oak barrels deep in the cellars of Domaine Jacques Prieur.

After a very mild winter and a warm spring weather in the second half of April, the bud break was advanced but the frost with high level or humidity at the end of the month destroyed the parcels with the best exposition. After the frost the vine was developing slowly. Acceleration in growth and the maturity of grapes were possible thanks to very warm and dry summer, with ripening that started quickly by mid-August. The harvest started on 20th September and the sanitary condition of the vineyard was perfect.
The overall quality of the wines is not affected by these weather disturbances.
Intense ruby red. Very charming with fruity notes (red fruits, cherry, cherry-stone), fresh almond. Noble and fresh. The palate is fruity with beautiful density. Fresh, embracing and spicy tannins.

"From 0.25-hectare of vines, the 2016 Meursault Rouge Clos de Mazeray Rouge was reduced to two barrels, fermented in open demi-muids with 100% whole bunch. It has a slightly rustic, tertiary bouquet but is still nicely focused and fresh. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, the whole bunch poking through a little toward the finish but there is decent weight here, if not the persistence of a top vintage."
