Additional Details edit

2016, 26th-28th April: Devastating frost episode!
After a very mild winter and a warm spring weather in the second half of April, the bud break was advanced but the frost with high level or humidity at the end of the month destroyed the parcels with the best exposition. After the frost the vine was developing slowly. Acceleration in growth and the maturity of grapes were possible thanks to very warm and dry summer, with ripening that started quickly by mid-August. The harvest started on 20th September and the sanitary condition of the vineyard was perfect.
The overall quality of the wines is not affected by these weather disturbances.

Luminous green gold with scintillating silver reflections. Refined and complex but still very discrete on the nose. Very consistent and powerful, embracing the palate with its incredible richness. An infinite length on the finish along with a beautiful sapidity.

"(from two parcels measuring .59 ha on the Chassagne side, one of which is in the section known as Dents de Chien; Interestingly one of the parcels is planted to an equivalent density of 14,000 vines per ha, notably higher than the usual 10,000). Much fresher and admirably pure aromas are comprised by notes of honeysuckle, citrus, pear and white peach. There is outstanding richness and volume to the equally pure, intense and detailed broad-shouldered flavors that brim with minerality on the delineated, focused and notably dry finish. This impeccably well-balanced effort should reward at least 10 years of cellar time and is very much a Montrachet of power but also refinement. In a word, magnificent."

"The 2016 Montrachet Grand Cru has a little more energy and mineralité than the Chevalier-Montrachet this year, the terroir more expressive and lending more tension and bite. The palate is fresh and energetic with a fine bead of acidity, impressive weight with a caressing, quite voluminous finish that lingers long. There is something suitably aristocratic about this Montrachet that surpasses the Chevalier-Montrachet."
