Domaine Jacques Prieur

Terroir: Domaine Jacques Prieur owns a 1.8 acre parcel of Les Bressandes in the Grand Cru of Corton. Les Bressandes sits on the northern portion of the hill of Corton on the lower slopes. Soils are heavier here than further uphill consisting mainly of clay and small amounts of limestone.

Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested, strictly sorted and destemmed. The must will sit on the skins for 19 days prior to fermentation. The wine ages for 17 months of in oak barrels deep in the cellars of Domaine Jacques Prieur.

2015 Exceptional sunshine!
The year 2015 profited from completely exceptional climatic conditions with surplus sunning, very weak pluviometry and very high temperatures in June and July. The strong luminosity and heat marked this year with accelerated vegetative cycle and certain stages such as flowering at the beginning of June and ripening at the beginning of August were fulgurating.
Harvests at Domaine Jacques Prieur started on 3rd September for Chardonnays and on 7th September for the Pinot Noirs.
2015 can be illustrated as an extremely early vintage and it stands next to 2003, 2007 and 2011.

Luminous ruby red. Generous showing floral, spicy and fruity notes at the same time (rose, clove and fresh cherry). Invigorating and dynamic with fruity-acidulous notes. Very digestible on the finish with structured, fresh and spicy tannins.

    (from a .63 ha parcel; 50% whole clusters). An elegant, pure and ripe nose retains good freshness to the impressively broad assortment of red berry fruit aromas that are interwoven with plum, floral and earth nuances. There is a taut muscularity to the punchy and delicious medium weight plus-sized flavors that are at once powerful yet refined on the impressively persistent if not quite as complex finale. That said, there is plenty of time for this to develop more depth as its certainly not constructed to be an early drinker.

    (vinified with 50% whole clusters and aging in 70% new oak): Bright red-ruby. Aromas of black raspberry and licorice lifted by flinty minerality. Sappy dark raspberry, cherry and spice flavors show excellent mineral definition. A distinctly rocky, airy style if a bit taut and youthfully disjointed today owing to its pungent mineral component. "The 2009 version was much more juicy," noted Edouard Labruyre. "Here we find the texture of the skins." This will require patience.

    The 2015 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru includes around one-third whole bunch fruit this year. Again, the stems are disguised on the nose that is well defined, offering more black fruit than red, an underlying cold stone/mineral edge becoming more apparent as it opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. There is commendable depth here, smooth and velvety in the mouth but that stony element become more apparent on the energetic finish. Give this 4-5 years to mellow and just shave the edge off of those tannins.
