Soil here is rich in organic material, mineral and clay and vines are old and very densely planted to encourage competition amongst the vines, limiting yields and producing fruit of great concentration.
Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested, strictly sorted and destemmed. The must macerates in temperature controlled oak vats for 21 days. The wine ages for 17 months of in oak barrels deep in the cellars of Domaine Jacques Prieur.
Additional Details
2017 Omnipresent Sun!The exceptional warm weather and the sunlight in March and in the first half of April gave way to a very quick development of the vine. The decrease in temperature in the end of April and minor frost episodes did not impact our vineyards like in 2016.
With constantly high temperatures, the growth cycle of the vine during the phase of vegetation was fulgurating (early and rapid flowering at the end of May - beginning of June and "flash" véraison has finished by 10th August).
The canicular weather in end of August intersected with occasional rains has accelerated the maturation of grapes and placed 2017 vintage among the earliest since the beginning of the years 2000.
The harvest at Domaine Jacque Prieur began on 29th August.
Classical ruby red. Subtle with delicate spicy and fruity (vanilla, cherry) and slightly mentholated notes. The palate is delicious and smooth. Tasty fruity texture evolving into spicy and menthol notes. Fine, fresh and subtle tannins.

"A bit surly now, this red is muscular, with beefy tannins wrapping up the black cherry, blackberry, earth, iron and tobacco flavors. Concentrated and vibrant, but needs time to integrate more fully. Best from 2023 through 2045. 15 cases imported."
