Each terroir and each vintage, benefits from special attention which makes the cuvées unique. Each bottle therefore becomes the faithful reflection of its terroir.

Terroir: The 15 acre 1er Cru Fremiets is located on the border with Pommard in the heart of the 1er Cru vineyards of Volnay. Domaine Faiveley acquired their 1.83 acre parcel in 2007. The plot runs the length of the vineyard contains a slight grade and an exposure facing east/ southeast. Soils are poor and composed primarily of clay and limestone.

Brilliant ruby-red. Slightly minty aspect to the pungent red berry and pepper flavors. Nicely intense, sweet and chewy but not a fleshy style of Volnay. This sharply delineated but youthfully tight wine, aged in 20% new oak, finishes with a serious tannic underpinning.

There is just enough reduction present to suppress the underlying fruit but there is excellent freshness and punch to the pure, detailed and elegant middle weight flavors that brim with both minerality and sappy dry extract on the firm, balanced and beautifully persistent finale. This succulent and stylish effort should both drink reasonably well young but also reward extended keeping.
