- Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Vignerondes 2012

Domaine Faiveley combines the principles of modern winemaking methods with the time honored traditions that have been practiced for centuries within their 19th century cellars. Each terroir and each vintage, benefits from special attention which makes the cuvées unique. Each bottle therefore becomes the faithful reflection of its terroir.

Terroir: 1er Cru Aux Vignerondes translates to "round vine" paying homage to the original shape of this small 9.5 acre vineyard that sits just below Aux Chaignots to the north of the village of Nuits-St-Georges. Domaine Faiveley farms just over an acre of vines that are set in very shallow, stony soils.

Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested and sorted upon arrival at the domaine. Following a 18-20 day maceration the must undergoes primary fermentation in a combination of stainless steel and wooden vats. The young wines are aged in 70% lightly toasted new oak barrels for 14 to 16 months.

Additional Details edit

A beautiful dark ruby color. The nose is very pleasant with fruity and spicy aromas. This wine is nice on the palate, where we find the same fruity and spicy notes and a few woody hints. Its fine and silky tannins give it great elegance.

A bright, juicy version, with spiced cherry, currant, earth, licorice and light vegetal flavors. Dense, lingering with grainy tannins and a minerally aftertaste. Very fluid, resonant and long. Best from 2019 through 2033.

"Good bright, dark red, Ripe aromas of raspberry and menthol. Dense, supple and juicy, with lovely energy to the dark berry, cherry and licorice flavors. A rather sedate Nuits wine with subtle sweetness."

"Strong reduction completely flattens the fruit. There is a lush and distinctly spicy character to the solidly dense medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by phenologically mature tannins on the mildly austere finish that displays fine depth and very good length. Solid quality here."
