- Montagny Blanc 2016

Overview

Domaine Faiveley combines the principles of modern winemaking methods with the time honored traditions that have been practiced for centuries within their 19th century cellars. Each terroir and each vintage, benefits from special attention which makes the cuvées unique. Each bottle therefore becomes the faithful reflection of its terroir.

Terroir: The appellation of Montagny is located in the extreme south of the Côte Chalonnaise directly bordering the Maconnais. Vineyards here can sit as high as 1,000 feet in elevation and typically have an ideal east/ south-east exposure. Soils are primarily clay and marl.

Vinification: The grapes are hand-harvested and pressed and vinified on site in Faiveley's cellars in Mercurey. Following fermentation the wines are transported to the main cellars in Nuits-St Georges for aging. Aging takes place of a period of 10-12 months in a combination of neutral tank and oak barrels.

"Montagny, in the Côte Chalonnaise, produces only white wines. This fine example is packed with fruit lifted by great acidity. There is a tight, mineral edge to this still-young wine, so wait a little for its exuberant fruit to show. Drink from 2020."
