Domaine Faiveley - Echézeaux Grand Cru 2014
Overview
Domaine Faiveley combines the principles of modern winemaking methods with the time honored traditions that have been practiced for centuries within their 19th century cellars. Each terroir and each vintage, benefits from special attention which makes the cuvées unique. Each bottle therefore becomes the faithful reflection of its terroir. Terroir: The 90+ acres of Grand Cru Echézeaux are located on the upper slope of the hillside above Clos de Vougeot and just south of Le Musigny. Domaine Faiveley owns a total of 2.18 acres spread across multiple plots. Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested and sorted upon arrival at the domaine. Following a short maceration the must undergoes primary fermentation in a combination of stainless steel and wooden vats. The young wines are aged in 70% lightly toasted new oak barrels for 16 to 18 months.Additional Details

This dense and succulent red boasts smoky cherry, anise and tar flavors, backed by beefy tannins. Finishes on the lean, sinewy side. Best from 2020 through 2033.

"Firmly structured, this dark wine has smoky tannins and intense acidity combined in a texture that is dusty, almost dry at the core. Over this the ripe red fruits are spread thickly, giving powerful concentrated wine that will age well. Drink from 2022."

Bright red-ruby. Lovely perfumed aromas of rose petal, minerals and espresso. Boasts superb definition and energy in the mouth, accentuated by a high level of CO2. Youthfully backward and very long, showing no edges. This is always the Faiveley grand cru picked with the lowest potential alcohol, noted technical manager Jerme Flous. Quite uncompromising in the early going.

"A spicy yet reserved nose grudgingly displays notes of both red and blue pinot fruit that is trimmed in hints of violets and sandalwood. There is good richness to the detailed, intense and vibrant middle weight flavors that possess good volume and focused power on the ever-so-slightly austere finish that is balanced and refreshing. This too is going to need a long stay in a cool cellar but should very much be worth the wait."
