Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru La Combe d'Orveau 2014

Domaine Faiveley combines the principles of modern winemaking methods with the time honored traditions that have been practiced for centuries within their 19th century cellars. Each terroir and each vintage, benefits from special attention which makes the cuvées unique. Each bottle therefore becomes the faithful reflection of its terroir.

Terroir: 1er Cru La Combe d’Orveau (golden valley) is situated just above the Grand Cru Musigny and shares an almost identical terroir. Domaine Faiveley’s small .64 acre parcel sits mid slope with an ideal south/ southeast exposure and stony, shallow limestone soils.

Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested and sorted upon arrival at the domaine. Following a 18-20 day maceration the must undergoes primary fermentation in a combination of stainless steel and wooden vats. The young wines are aged in 70% lightly toasted new oak barrels for 14 to 16 months.

Additional Information

Bright garnet in color with a delicate nose disclosing fruity and oaky notes. The palate reveals fruity, toasty notes such as black cherry and a firm tannic structure. An elegant, delicate and very distinctive wine.

Healthy dark red-ruby. Mineral-driven aromas of raspberry, ripe strawberry, crushed rock and sweet flowers, lifted by a suggestion of tiny, concentrated wild berries. Smoky saline minerals and small will red berries dominate the palate of this wonderfully smooth, fine-grained wines. No shortage of tannins here but without any dryness. This vineyard is next to the Petit Musigny section of Musigny, adjacent to Domaine Jacques Prieur's Musigny holding.

"Strong reduction dominates the nose at present. There is brilliantly good delineation, indeed the medium weight flavors could aptly be described as chiseled, along with a lovely sense of underlying tension to the more mineral-inflected finale that possesses strikingly good persistence. This impeccably well-balanced effort is a classic Chambolle of grace and lace."
