Blagny 1er Cru La Pièce sous le Bois 2016

Domaine Faiveley combines the principles of modern winemaking methods with the time honored traditions that have been practiced for centuries within their 19th century cellars. Each terroir and each vintage, benefits from special attention which makes the cuvées unique. Each bottle therefore becomes the faithful reflection of its terroir.

Terroir: The tiny hamlet of Blagny is situated high on the hillside between the appellations of Puligny Montrachet and Meursault. White wines produced here are labeled Meursault or Puligny but the red wines are labeled under the Blagny AOC. The 1er Cru La Pièce sous le Bois or “vines below the woods” sits above the Meursault 1er Crus; Perrières and Genevrières. This 27 acre vineyard has an exposure to the east and soils made up of loose white marls and red clay. Domaine Faiveley produces this wine from a 1.38 acre portion of the vineyard.

Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested and sorted upon arrival at the domaine. Following a 18-20 day maceration the must undergoes primary fermentation in a combination of stainless steel and wooden vats. The young wines are aged in 70% lightly toasted new oak barrels for 14 to 16 months.

Additional Information

A brilliant red, slightly garnet color. This wine gives off cooked black and red fruit aromas and fiery notes. We find the fruity and slightly smoky notes on the palate too. This wine is all roundness and softness, but full-bodied nevertheless.
