Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos ‘Clos des Hospices’ 2017

Domaine Christian Moreau Père & Fils

Terroir: The Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Grand Cru Les Clos ‘Clos des Hospices’ is produced from the domaine’s tiny one-acre monopole at the foot of the Les Clos vineyard. The vineyard was acquired by the Moreau family in 1904 and has a slightly different terroir to rest of the vineyard, with slightly heavier marl soils, old and densely planted vines.

Vinification The grapes are pruned heavily during the growing season to keep yields to a minimum. Grapes are hand harvested using small containers, and brought to the winery for further sorting. Like all Moreau wines, the selection process is strict for this cuvée with only the highest quality grapes making their way to the fermentation. The must is fermented in stainless steel followed by 12 months of aging in the cellars. A small portion on the final blend is aged in oak cask.

Additional Information

Very well defined bouquet of oranges, honeysuckle and melon. The palate is filled with minerality, an excellent sense of energy, and well-balanced acidity. This is a complex, delicious, and meant to be enjoyed.

"The 2017 Chablis Les Clos Clos des Hospice Grand Cru shows a richer, more powerful expression of this Grand Cru than the straight Les Clos, with greater depth and a more tropical profile. Pineapple, candied orange zest, hazelnut and chamomile add to the wine's flamboyant-leaning feel."

"A lean, racy version, featuring lemon, apple, vanilla and lanolin flavors. Fleshes out on the palate, yet remains defined by vivid acidity. Displays fine length, echoing lemon and spice notes. Best from 2020 through 2027. 1,400 cases made, 50 cases imported."
