Domaine Christian Moreau Père & Fils - Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 2018
Terroir: Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils owns a total of 7.5 acres of this most famous of the Grand Crus of Chablis, more than any other producer in the region. Their primary parcel sits on the high portion of the hillside with a direct southeast exposure. With the steep grade, drainage of the kimmeridgien soils is quick leading to low yields of the densely planted vines.
Vinification: A sizable 40% of the final blend is aged in oak cask, although only a small percentage is new barrels. The oak contact is unobtrusive and is a testament to the sheer power of this Grand Cru.
Additional Details editAn incredibly complex and delicious Chardonnay that easily holds its weight against the great masters in Puligny, Meursault and Corton-Charlemagne. Muscular yet refined and finessed, it greets the nose with a hedonistic bou-quet of lush citrus, tart green apples, white flowers, fresh herbs and delicate yet pronounced saline minerals, all supported by just the slightest hint of toast. Laser-precise on the palate with zippy acidity and immaculate detail.Technical Details

"Not showy in any way, this white is harmonious and graceful, yet with an underlying intensity that keeps building on the palate to a long conclusion. Peach, melon, lemon and baking spices are punctuated by a stony, minerally saline element that caps the lingering aftertaste. Drink now through 2027. 2,500 cases made, 500 cases imported."

"A certain restraint governs the chalky, nutty and smoky nature of this wine's nose. Very slowly, a pure note of zesty lemon comes through, illuminating the entire wine. Chalky density, coolness and rich, buffered stoniness give texture and concentration, made distinct by lemon freshness. The wine already has harmony and poise that will only increase over the years. It is elegant and enduring. Drink 2025–2040."

"The 2018 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is airy and gracious - not unlike the Blanchot in feel - with added layers of textural richness and depth. Apricot, citrus confit, crushed rocks, oak and light tropical overtones add character to this beautifully layered, nuanced Clos. A Chablis of reserve and class, the 2018 has a very bright future, as suggested by the floral, tightly wound finish. The 2018 was done 60% in steel and 40% in oak."
