Domaine Armand Rousseau - Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru Clos de Ruchottes (Monopole) 2013

Overview

Terroir: This Rousseau monopole of just over 3 acres sits perched just above Mazy-Chambertin and is the most northern of Burgundies Grand Crus.

Vinification: Grapes are meticulously sorted as they arrive in the winery. Following a cool maceration lasting 5-7 days the must travels by gravity into barrel where it will stay for the entire vinification process lasting typically 18-24 months. Each Armand Rousseau wine is blended unfiltered.

"Good dark red. Reduced nose dominated by strawberry and raspberry. Wonderful silky on entry, then quite closed on the back half, with the element of reduction carrying through on the palate. Showed some enticing dark raspberry and game notes with air. Finishes firmly tannic but not dry. This wine was tough to taste following Rousseau's top 2014s but it boasts sneaky length."

"A discreet touch of wood frames notably ripe but fresh aroma of dark currant, plum, truffle, earth and wet stone. There is outstanding delineation and intensity to the refined and pure medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by deceptively pliant tannins on the saline finish that seems to be constructed from liquid stone, all wrapped in a wonderfully long and pure finish. Textbook Ruchottes."
