Domaine Armand Rousseau - Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru 2017

Overview

Terroir: Charmes-Chambertin is the largest Grand Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin covering 72 acres spread across many growers. Domaine Armand Rousseau owns a total of 3.4 acres in a prime position on the hill, mid-slope with an east/southeast exposure.

Vinification: Grapes are meticulously sorted as they arrive in the winery. Following a cool maceration lasting 5-7 days the must travels by gravity into barrel where it will stay for the entire vinification process lasting typically 18-24 months. Each Armand Rousseau wine is blended unfiltered.

Additional Details edit

Beautifully aromatic. Pure, fresh, and bright cherry, plum, and red berry fruit aromas with a hint of herb and spice. On the palate, the flavors mirror the aromas, with vibrant cherry fruit and silky tannins. It is a very supple wine with a lot of finesse and elegance.

"The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a very precise and focused bouquet, almost the epitome of transparency and utterly encapsulating. There is real mineralité here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, very tensile from the start with tart red cherries, Japanese yuzu and orange zest that fans out beautifully on the finish. This is a Charmes-Chambertin with a skip in its step."

"The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is quite expressive, bursting with smoky, plummy fruit and savory bass notes of grilled meat and dark chocolate. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and open-knit, with a moderately long and notably sapid finish. As Rousseau followers will know, two-thirds of this cuvée derive from Mazoyères-Chambertin."
