Citra - Sistina Appassimento Rosso NV

Overview

The Italian genius for transforming the unique qualities of land into pure art, Sistina is inspired by the “cosmatesque” mosaics which appeared for the first time in 1200 A.D., in which small pieces of precious polychrome geometric-shaped marbles are assembled. Of particular workmanship, these are found mostly on church floors across Italy, including Abruzzo. This classic beauty is revealed in Sistina’s wines. Crafted with the utmost care, elegant in taste, and with a balanced sensorial level akin to the same balance found in the timeless architectural beauties found in Italian artistic creations. Terroir: Codice Citra sits on 6,000 hectares of wide territory that covers almost the entire province of Chieti, with a north-to-south extension of 80-90km, and 40km from the sea to the inland. It is a privileged spot where grapes ripen among Majella, Gran Sasso, and the Adriatic Sea: a unique chance to exploit different and unique terroirs and microclimates, with the ideal temperature range for the ripening of grapes. Mountain airstreams and sea breeze grapes acquire different chemical and aromatic characteristics that are fundamental to the production of Citra's distinctive wines. Vinification: On ripe grapes are made cultivation operations such as stripping and cutting of the stalks in order to induce over-ripening and increase the noble substances of the grape (e.g. increasing of polyphenols and sugars), to give a higher concentration. After the period of overripening the grapes are harvested and vinified traditionally with long maceration of the skins at a controlled temperature. The wine, after racking, once malolactic fermentation is complete, decants into stainless steel tanks and wooden barrels.
