Considered very “precious”by all people from Abruzzo. (“caro” means “precious” ). It expresses all the full-bodiedness and power of the main indigenous variety of Abruzzo with the aim of offering a unique wine inspired by the centuries-old winemaking tradition linked to the Abruzzo’s winemaking tradition, in a few words “the wine as it was made in the past”.
A single expression of Chieti’s top cru where the hills run parallel to the Adriatic sea, creating a unique microclimate, at 180 meters above sea level, making an elegant and powerful Montepulciano D’Abruzzo Riserva.
Terroir: Codice Citra sits on 6,000 hectares of wide territory that covers almost the entire province of Chieti, with a north-to-south extension of 80-90km, and 40km from the sea to the inland. It is a privileged spot where grapes ripen among Majella, Gran Sasso, and the Adriatic Sea: a unique chance to exploit different and unique terroirs and microclimates, with the ideal temperature range for the ripening of grapes. Mountain airstreams and sea breeze grapes acquire different chemical and aromatic characteristics that are fundamental to the production of Citra’s distinctive wines.
Vinification: The picked grapes are traditionally vinified by a long maceration of the skins at a controlled temperature. During the fermentation, the must is racked off and pumped over on the marc hat. The wine decants into stainless steel tanks completing the malolactic
process. Finally, it ages in wood barrels to enhance its organoleptic characteristics.
Intense ruby red color with light violet nuances. Intense bouquet with mulberry and sour cherry hints. It offers remarkably complex scents,
with balsamic and fruity aromas combined with spicy notes. Elegant taste with a rich tannic texture. distinct retrofactory sensations of red fruit (mulberry) with spice and licorice scents, a complex persistent finish.
Food Pairing: cold cuts, appetizers, seasoned cheeses, important first courses with meat sauces, truffles, and mushrooms. Ideal with roasts
and game. Serving temperature 61/64˚ F.
