Pouilly Fuissé Tête de Cuvee 2017

Château Fuissé

Terroir: Château Fuissé’s Téte de Cuvee is a blend of over 20 prime vineyard sites throughout the appellation of Pouilly-Fuissé. Plots in Pouilly, with a high limestone proportion, contribute intense perfume yet more delicacy in the mouth. Those in Fuissé, where clay is more prominent, are less aromatic but fuller, more solid and structured. Vines are an average of 30 years old.

Vinification: Each vineyard site is vinified separately until the final blend is chosen following aging. 60% of the wine is aged in oak barrel (25% new) while the remaining 40% is stored in stainless steel to retain it’s pure fruit.

"The 2017 Pouilly-Fuissé Tête de Cru is performing well from bottle, opening in the glass with aromas of citrus confit, ripe pear, vanilla pod and spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with more structure than the Saint-Véran and with an oak-inflected finish."

"(the fruit comes from 20 to 30 year old vines situated in a variety of terroirs and is aged in 20% new oak and 30% stainless with the remainder in older wood). Here too there is a lovely freshness to the more restrained and complex aromas of pain grillé, honeysuckle, lemon-lime and passion fruit. The wood treatment shows up on the palate as well as the fleshy but intense middle weight flavors possess a plump and quite forward mouth feel, all wrapped in a bitter lemon-inflected finish where a hint of warmth slowly emerges. Once again, a wine to enjoy in its youth."
