Château Fuissé - Pouilly Fuissé Tête de Cru 2016
Overview
Terroir: Château Fuissé's Téte de Cuvee is a blend of over 20 prime vineyard sites throughout the appellation of Pouilly-Fuissé. Plots in Pouilly, with a high limestone proportion, contribute intense perfume yet more delicacy in the mouth. Those in Fuissé, where clay is more prominent, are less aromatic but fuller, more solid and structured. Vines are an average of 30 years old. Vinification: Each vineyard site is vinified separately until the final blend is chosen following aging. 60% of the wine is aged in oak barrel (25% new) while the remaining 40% is stored in stainless steel to retain it's pure fruit.Additional Details
An excellent example of the true potential of the wines of Pouilly-Fuissé and a great introduction to the wines of Château Fuissé. The wine is rich and robust in the mouth, but retains it’s lean acidity and freshness throughout.Technical Details

"Sourced from more than 40 parcels across the Château de Fuissé vineyard, this wine is beautifully structured, rich and with layers of white fruits and peaches. The mineral texture gives a nervy edge that will soften over the next few months. Drink from 2021."

"A blend of multiple parcels that's bottled under nomacorc and constitutes the estate's entry-level cuvée, the 2016 Pouilly-Fuissé Tête de Cru offers up notes of orchard fruit, verbena, pastry cream and struck match. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, satiny and elegant, with moderate concentration and a chalky finish. It's a pretty wine, but to my palate, it's well worth paying the comparatively small premium for the Domaine's grander bottlings."

Defined flavors of apple, lemon and mineral are deftly shaded by spicy oak in this tightly knit white that's intense and long, with an equilibrium that should gain cohesion over the next year or so. Best from 2020 through 2027.

"(a blend of 40 plots on a variety of soils, including a high percentage of sand and sandstone that's atypical for Fuissé; 70% vinified and aged in oak, 25% new, and 30% in tank): Pale yellow with a green tinge. Riper but more subdued than the Saint-Véran, showing more yellow fruits than green, with aromas of peach, orange zest and spices. Tactile, fresh wine with good texture to its peach and citrus flavors, along with a touch of creaminess from élevage on its lees. This fruit was picked at 13% potential alcohol. A very rich, pliant Pouilly-Fuissé, but showing modest nuance and perfume today."

"(the fruit comes from 20 to 30 year old vines situated in a variety of terroirs and is aged in 20% new oak and 30% stainless with the remainder in older wood). A discreet application of wood sets off the aromas of pear compote, mandarin orange and soft floral wisps. There is solid size, weight and mid-palate density to the delicious middle weight flavors that possess fine depth and length on the slightly lean finish. This relatively racy effort could use a few years of cellar time to better flesh out the backend."
