Château Fuissé - Pouilly Fuissé Les Combettes 2017

Overview

Terroir: One of the three monopole bottlings of Château Fuissé, the vineyard of Les Combettes covers just 4.4 acres within the village of Fuissé. Vines are densely planted in a well drained soil made up primarily of limestone, pebbles and small amounts of clay. Vinification: The grapes are brought to the state-of-the-art winery where they are sorted and placed in barrel for fermentation. The must rests in the cellars of Château Fuissé for 12 months in used oak barrels (3 to 5 years old). To retain it's vibrant acidity no new oak is used in this cuvée.

Additional Details edit

The Les Combettes shows a light yellow color with subtle notes of green. Floral and mineral on the nose, with hints of exotic fruit and ripe apples. On the palate, the attack is full and fresh with aromas of white flowers. Rich on the finish, the wine is fresh, with a crisp minerality and good roundness.

"Well-marked by baking spice notes of vanilla, clove, nutmeg and allspice, this white is also tangy, evoking apple and lemon flavors and a saline element. Turns focused and precise on the long finish. Drink now through 2025. 250 cases made, 50 cases imported."

"Inscrutable though it was last year, the 2017 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Combettes is showing very well today, bursting with aromas of yellow orchard fruit, almond paste, dried white flowers and wet stones. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and tensile, with good structure and concentration."

"(100% oak though none is new). A much more floral-infused nose offers up notes of essence of pear and apple trimmed in just enough wood to comment on. There is good verve to the nicely intense medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by moderately bright and firm citrus-tinged acidity on the lightly stony finish that flashes slightly better depth and persistence."
