Château Fuissé - Pouilly-Fuissé Les Brules 2013

Overview

Terroir: The Le Brulé vineyard sits directly behind the Château Fuissé and is adjacent to Le Clos. The vineyard is true to it's name (burned) as it's fruit enjoys a full southern exposure to the full days sunlight throughout the growing season. The vineyard is steep and very well drained.

Vinification: Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place entirely in barrel. The wine is aged for 12 months in new oak in the cellars of Château Fuissé.

"This is one of those wines that I have a love hate relationship with because while I admire the density and richness it always carries more oak than I can warm up to and such is the case in 2013. The wood treatment fights with the very ripe and overtly exotic yellow fruit aromas that are in keeping with the impressively concentrated and opulent middle weight plus flavors. It would be natural to assume that an oaky and exceptionally concentrated wine would be heavy but once again there is sufficient lemon-tinged acidity to maintain the balance. That said, while there will undoubtedly be those who enjoy the oaky full-on in-your-face style, I am not one of them."
