Château Fuissé - Pouilly Fuissé Le Clos 2017

With the 1992 vintage Château Fuissé produced their single vineyard bottling from their Le Clos vineyard. This cuvée has become one of Pouilly-Fuissé's top selection with age-ability of the famous wines of the Côte de Beaune. Terroir: This walled parcel directly behind the chateau contains soil of dense clay and has a perfect south/ southeast exposure. The vineyard is planted entirely to Chardonnay vines that average over 45 years of age. Vinification: Château Fuissé Le Clos is barrel fermented and aged in the cool cellars below the chateau for 12 months. 80% of the barrels are new. The wine is is then moved to the state-of-the-art winemaking facility for clarification and bottling. Quantities are limited to under 500 cases a year. Le Clos is extraordinarily rich with layer upon layer of ripe apple, pair, and spice. The finish is driven by mineral with a firm gripping acidity.

"The 2017 Pouilly-Fuissé Le Clos is showing superbly, unfurling in the glass with aromas of honeycomb, mandarin, confit lemon and citrus zest that are deftly framed by a light touch of new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, broad and satiny, with a deep and multidimensional core, lively acids and a long, saline finish. It's the finest rendition of this bottling for several years."

"This smoky, wood-aged wine comes from a walled vineyard next to the Château de Fuissé. Produced from old vines, it has concentrated apple and pear flavors, a touch of spice as well as bright acidity. The generous, opulent character will allow it to age. Drink from 2022." (July 2019 Issue)

"Offering a mix of peach, melon and lemon curd flavors wrapped in toasty oak, this white also boasts a creamy texture. A beam of acidity at the core drives the lingering aftertaste. Starts out rich and finishes long and clean. Drink now through 2025."

"If you only plan to buy one Pouilly-Fuissé in 2017, this should be it. It's a world-class wine from a superb site, facing east and situated just behind the château. Old vines, a combination of soil types and brilliant winemaking have produced something really exciting. It's elegant, focussed, yet also profound. It has everything in proportion, showing flavours of pear, grapefruit and subtle baking spices."

"(from vines that face due east). Much more subtle if not imperceptible wood frames the more floral-scented nose of citrus, pear and a whiff of petrol character. The more refined and restrained flavors possess plenty of dry extract, indeed so much so that the sour-sweet and stony finish is almost chewy."
