Brut Rosé Vintage 2009

Champagne Pol Roger

Pol Roger only produces the Brut Rosé in vintage years. The wine is a blend of 50% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay vinified blanc from 20 1er and Grand Crus in the Montagne de Reims and Côte des Blancs regions. The remaining 15% is Pinot Noir that has been vinified “en rouge” and then added to the final blend prior to the second fermentation.

Vinification: The must undergoes two débourbages (settlings), one at the press house immediatly after pressing and the second, a débourbage à froid, in stainless steel tanks at 6°C over a 24 hour period. A slow cool fermentation with the temperature kept under 18°C takes place in stainless steel with each variety and each village kept seperate. The wine undergoes a full malolactic-fermentation prior to final blending. Secondary fermentation takes place in bottle at 9°C in the deepest Pol Roger cellars (33 metres below street level) where the wine is kept until it undergoes remuage (riddling) by hand, a rarity in Champagne nowadays. The very fine and persistent mousse for which Pol Roger is renowned owes much to these deep, cool and damp cellars.

Additional Information

A deep salmon pink color with a fine stream of small bubbles. The nose has aromas of ripe fruits with elements of citrus fruits (blood orange), pomegranate and small wild red berries. On the palate, a deep mineral character fine, creamy ripeness and a hint of vanilla. The wine is tender and smooth with a balance of delicate freshness and refined elegance. A discreet vinosity with a clean and precise finish.

"Rich accents of smoke and pastry lead to white raspberry and apricot fruit, ground ginger and Earl Grey tea notes in this firm, well-knit rosé Champagne. Long and creamy on the lightly spiced finish. Drink now through 2029."

"This perfumed wine has just the right color and lively, crisp acidity. The full-bodied feel is very much the house style of this producer, giving richness from ripe red fruits as well as balanced acidity to finish. The wine is generous and ready to drink."

"A similar blend to the 2009 Brut, this includes 15 percent pinot noir still wine from the Montagne de Reims. That red wine takes it in a vinous direction, with notes of anise, violets and cranberries all held in a brisk length of flavor, offering saturated richness and refinement."

"Blending 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay with 15% Pinot Noir red wine from the Montagne de Reims, Pol Roger's 2009 Vintage Brut Rosé displays an intense salmon/onion color and a rich, vinous bouquet of red berries and cherries that come along as ripe and dried fruit flavors. Full-bodied, round and dry, with very fine tannins giving a firm, refreshing and grippy structure framing body and the intense fruit, this is an elegant, fresh and finessed rosé with a delicate Pinot character on the finish. Aged for seven years on the second lees, the 2009 reveals good length and structure and is a serious gastronomic rosé."
