Bodega El Esteco - Ciclos Malbec-Merlot 2012

Overview

Ciclos was born as the expression of Cafayate's unique microclimate where two climates live together in perfect harmony.
Terroir: Deep, poor, rocky soils. Irrigation from the Andes. Wide thermal amplitude with big differences (approximatelly 22° C between the minimun during thecold mornings and nights, and the maximun during sunny days). Dry climate, little rainfall, 120mm of rain a year, 15% humidity and 300 days of sunshine. Cold mornings and nights, and long hot days result in wines that are highly concentrated in color, aromas and flavors with a unique fruity character.
Vinification: Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted upon arrival at the winery followed by a long, cool maceration and primary fermentation in tank. The wines are aged for 15 months in a combination of French and American oak prior to final blending and bottling.

"The 2012 Ciclos is deep red in color with a nose of ripe berry fruit laced with balanced vanilla oak. The wine is full-bodied and driven by sweet berry jam, and spice."

Lifted notes of tangerine and black fruits. Ripe, juicy and generous and also shows a tight-knit structure and a mineral edge that will allow it to become more complex with time.

Produced as a 50/50 blend of Malbec and Merlot, the 2012 Ciclos Icono matured in French and American oak barrels for 15 months. There are some charred aromas and notes of ripe fruit and Mediterranean herbs (esparto grass). The palate is medium-bodied but it fills the mouth quite well with fine tannins and balanced acidity.
