Summary
Pol Roger only produces the Brut Rosé in vintage years. The wine is a blend of 50% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay vinified blanc from 20 1er and Grand Crus in the Montagne de Reims and Cote des Blancs regions. The remaining 15% is Pinot Noir that has been vinified "en rouge" and then added to the final blend prior to the second fermentation.
Vinification: The unblended juice undergoes primary fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a cool 43°f. Each variety, village and vineyard are always fermented and cellared separately until final blending. Secondary fermentation takes place in bottle deep in the cellars of Pol Roger, where it is kept until final blending.
The Vintage Brut is typically a delicate rosé, soft pink in color and driven by red fruit.
Notes
2002 was an uneventful growing season in Champagne. Summer was hot and dry and followed by rains perfectly timed to push the grapes to prime maturity levels. This is a ripe vintage with above average sugar levels.
"A delicate, soft pink with Pol Roger's hallmark fine mousse. The nose is fresh, lively and fruity. First impression are of red fruits, strawberry and raspberry, with a fresh but lingering bouquet. This is followed by warmer notes of wheat and dried cereals. Powerful and vinous in the mouth, the wine develops a fleshy texture underpinned by a firm backbone promising a long life." --Laurant D'Harcourt

"From the great 2002 vintage, this is a beautiful structured wine, packed with a fine texture of red berries, intense acidity as well as richness. Intense, complex wine that could well age."
"I had great difficulty tasting this: every time I went to spit it out, I swallowed it! It was so moreish, I couldnt help myself. Exquisite pale peach colour, sublime mousse, tantalising fruit, so yummy yet so classy how on earth do they do that? The 2002 is a ros of extraordinary finesse."

"(50% pinot noir, 35% chardonnay and 15% pinot noir that was vinified as red wine and blended into this wine before the second fermentation): Bright, orange-tinged pink. A complex bouquet displays redcurrant, cherry pit, Asian spices and smoky minerals. Deeply concentrated but almost shockingly energetic flavors of redcurrant, bitter cherry, allspice and candied licorice. Finishes juicy and very long, with a bright mineral note adding to the impression of nerve and focus. Lots of people claim that rose Champagne doesn't age well but I'll bet that this one will."
"Of their new releases, the youngest vintage is the 2002 ros, a beautiful, vinous bubbly that has great body and complexity."

"Pale pink; soft berry nose; fresh and racy with enticing raspberry and citrus; juicy and pure with elegance, restraint and style; fine mousse; lovely and classic.
"The 2002 Pol Brut Rose presents a stunning rendition of the Pinot Noir grape in all of its bubbly fanfare! Bright aromas of red raspberries and alpine strawberries make their rounds, with delicate floral aromatics playing in the background. On the palate expect more fresh red berry fruit, followed up by a stint of stone fruit and grounded minerality. Balance, elegance and complex character make this a top Champagne for New Year's anniversaries, and big birthdays!"
"The 2002 Brut Rose Extra Cuvee de Reserve is a gorgeous wine, even if it is a bit buttoned up at this stage. Layers of well-delineated aromatics emerge over time, melding seamlessly into a chiseled, precise core of fruit. This shows quite a bit of depth and richness, all while maintaining superb freshness and clarity. Though delicious today, I imagine this will be a highly rewarding bottle to follow over the next decade or so. This is an absolutely exquisite Champagne from Pol Roger. The Rose Extra Cuvee de Reserve is 35% Chardonnay and 65% Pinot Noir, of which 15% is still Pinot, with full malolactic fermentation."

" More vintages like 2002, please... especially if they give us wines like this rose, a quiet, persistent, thrillingly precise pinot noir with fruit that manages to be vivid and supple, a color that hints at fresh apricot and a scent that shifts from apricot to fresh red berries. The fruit presence submerges into the delicate fortitude of the tannin, reemergin with bass notes of wildflowers and high notes of rose. this has plenty of power in reserve if you choose to age it, and enough substance to pour with prawns in a mildly spicy Vietnamese green curry."

"Light, bright pink. Bright, expressive aromas of red currant, wild strawberry, white flowers and Asian spices, with a chalky undertone. Deeper cherry, licorice and subtle smoky qualities join the nervy red fruits on the velvety palate. Puts on weight with air, finishing with solid grip and lingering smoke and floral notes. This could still use some bottle age but there's enough complexity for guilt-free drinking now."

"Light and juicy with ripe raspberry, blackberry and kirsch notes mixing with hints of spice and lemon peel. Shows good intensity in a more delicate package, with a floral finish."
